The central nervous system of a leech has five main points-M,N,O,P,and Q. Each segment is characterized by fissures which form columns of founder cells along the nerve cords. Most of the leech's nerve fibers are located around the N lineage. The connectivity of these 5 lineages to the CNS is what allows the leech's nervous system to work and function as a whole. The founder cells in leeches are very unique, they are not even shared by a common ancestor.
