Vampire Squids are particularly interesting type of squid because they live deep within the depths of the ocean, and have certain adaptations that other cephalopods don't have. Vampire Squids are covered in light producing organs called photophores, which can produce disorientating flashes of light from anywhere from fractions of a second to many minutes. As you can see in the video below, it can be very confusing especially when you are used to pure darkness.
Vampire squids also posses the ability to turn themselves inside out, exposing what looks likes spines, and deters predators.
